A hallway rug, commonly known as a runner, is a narrow and long form with an aspect ratio of 1:3 or more. This ratio makes it less a decorative piece and more a transitional surface: walked over dozens of times a day, always along the same path.
Non-slip is a safety feature, not a comfort one, here
- A narrow and long rug can easily slide lengthwise with the force of a step; a non-slip pad or rug tape should be considered standard, not optional.
- Curling edges create a tripping hazard. After laying, allow the rug a few days to flatten, and secure the ends if necessary.
- Near stair landings, the edge of the rug should not end flush with the step; the finish line should be moved away from the step.
- At doorways and where flooring changes, the end of the rug should not meet the threshold exactly; it's safer for it to end a few centimeters back.
Length is determined by doors, not the hallway
The first instinct when choosing a runner is to cover the hallway from end to end; however, the main constraint is the doors. If a door opening into the hallway swings inward, there should be no rug along the arc swept by the door leaf. Otherwise, the door will either snag or push the edge of the rug every time it opens. After accounting for door openings, measure the remaining distance and choose a length that leaves equal space at both ends; symmetry is the most noticeable detail in a narrow space. The same logic applies to width: the runner doesn't have to cover the entire hallway; a visible strip of flooring on both sides makes the passage feel more spacious. The rug size calculator will make your job easier when doing the math.
My hallway is short, what can I get instead of a runner?
A model with an aspect ratio around 1:2 would be more suitable; these sizes can be found in the rectangular rugs collection. The runner ratio is primarily logical for 1:3 and above.
How many products are in the collection?
720 hallway rugs are listed. The majority of products are machine-woven with polyester and polypropylene yarn. For heavily used transitional areas, models with a short pile make cleaning easier.
What are the post-order conditions?
Shipping is 1-3 business days, with 14-day unconditional returns and a 12-month manufacturer's warranty. For cleaning frequency, please refer to the rug care guide page.
