As saturation decreases, the color retains its identity but quiets its voice. Why Pastel Tones Don't Clash

When two saturated colors are placed side-by-side in the same room, the question of which will dominate arises. With pastels, this problem largely disappears because their intensities are equalized, and they don't overpower each other. This is why a pastel rug doesn't have to be from the same color family as the room's existing colors; a powder pink rug will sit harmoniously with a gray sofa, and a light green rug with a wooden table.
