Size Guide
Size Guide
Choosing the right rug size directly affects the perceived size of a room. In the living room, the front legs of sofas should rest on the rug; in the dining room, when a chair is pulled back, the wheels/legs should still be on the rug (approximately 25 cm on each side); and in the bedroom, it should extend approximately 45 cm beyond three sides of the bed.
- 2 m² → 120x180 cm
- 3 m² → 160x230 cm
- 4 m² → 200x290 cm
- 6 m² → 200x300 / 240x340 cm

Rug Shape Guide — Rectangular, Round, Oval, Runner, and More
Last update: May 2026
The shape of a rug directly affects the perception of a space. Choosing the wrong shape can ruin even the most beautiful decor; the right shape, however, can make small spaces look larger and ordinary rooms aesthetically pleasing. At Hali.net, you can find rugs of every shape and size in our catalog of over 113,000 products. In this guide, we explain where each shape works best.
Rectangular Carpet
The most classic and frequently chosen rug style. It's the first choice for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and most living spaces. Rectangular rugs increase the perceived length of a space.
Where is it used?
- Living room (under the seating group)
- Bedroom (under/in front of the bed)
- Dining room (under the table)
- Study room

Round Carpet
Round rugs add a dynamic look to small and medium-sized rooms. Their rounded design brings softness and warmth to the space, keeping the eye flowing.
Where is it used?
- Underneath round dining tables
- In the bedroom, especially beside the beds
- In the children's room, in the play area
- At the entrance/reception point
- In reading corners
Oval Carpet
Oval rugs, which are a longer version of round rugs, add both softness and direction to a space. They are an elegant choice that suits classic decor.
Where is it used?
- Especially in the bedroom, in French style decor
- In classically styled living rooms
- In spacious entrance halls
Square Carpet
Square rugs are perfect for spaces where you want to create a symmetrical arrangement. They are a favorite style for modern minimalist decor.
Where is it used?
- In the middle of square seating groups
- In children's playrooms
- In modulated halls
Runner (Travel allowance)
With its narrow and long structure, this type of rug is specifically designed for hallways, kitchens, and transitional areas. It brings aesthetic unity to long spaces.
Where is it used?
- Main corridor
- kitchen counter front
- Bed sides (along the bed)
- Staircase tops
- Apartment/hotel floor corridors
In the Hali.net Runner Collection , you can find runner rug options in various lengths and patterns.
Octagons and Special Shapes
Octagonal rugs are preferred under octagonal dining tables or in concept designs. Rugs in the shape of animals, maps, or flowers are popular in children's rooms.
