Light gray is the way to use gray without darkening the room. Anthracite covers the floor and highlights the furniture; light gray does the opposite, leaving the floor open and preserving the room's own light. All 1,964 models are in this range.
The main point about light gray: it takes on the undertone of the background.
Light gray isn't a neutral color; it reflects its surroundings. On oak or bamboo flooring with yellow-orange undertones, it leans towards beige-gray; on cool gray laminate or light-colored ceramic, it appears bluish and cold. The same rug will look like two different colors in two different homes. When choosing a rug, it's important to consider it in conjunction with the flooring, not in isolation.
Light grey, mink, or anthracite?
What distinguishes the three colors is not their tone, but their reaction to light:
- Light gray — it stands on the cooler side, makes the room look larger, and doesn't contrast with light furniture.
- Mink — a warmed-up shade of grey; it doesn't clash with cream and wood, but it leans towards yellow against a cool background.
- Anthracite — on a dark background, the pattern is silent, the texture speaks; it makes a small room feel even smaller.
What happens in daily use?
Light gray conceals dust and light-colored fur, but not dark fur or pet hair; the opposite is true for anthracite. In high-traffic areas (hallways, doorways), the crushed pile of light gray is more visible because shade transitions are more pronounced on a light background. This is not a problem in the living room and bedroom.
Which fabric?
Light grey polyester models are machine washable; chenille provides a softer, matte finish and appears a shade lighter due to its light-diffusing properties; and acrylic is the option that retains its color the longest.
