Plush Rugs

Plush is not a raw material. Of two rugs made from the same polyester yarn, one can be plush and the other not; the difference is not the yarn, but how the surface is cut and how densely the fibers are placed. The raw material information for two products can be identical, yet one is considered plush and the other is not. So, plush is not a fiber, but a surface description.

Three Steps to the Plush Finish

First, the pile ends are cut to an even, flat length, so the surface acts like a single plane. Then, the loops are set very close together; fingers cannot distinguish individual fibers, feeling a single covering instead. In the final step, the surface is brushed and set with heat treatment, revealing a matte, soft sheen similar to velvet. If any of these three steps are missing, the result is not plush, but an ordinary cut-pile surface. Short pile does not prevent softness: as density increases, even short pile acts like a cushion.

Why Only 62 Models?

The honest answer: this finishing process is not applied to every production line. We have 62 products that truly fit the plush definition, and we haven't inflated the list with similar surfaces just to make the number look bigger. The sizes in this selection are also predominantly in the medium and small range; those looking for large sizes to cover an entire living room will find limited options on this page. If you can't find the size or color you're looking for, soft and fluffy rugs offer a much wider selection for voluminous softness.

Where This Surface Excels

A dense surface shines in areas where you walk barefoot or in socks: beside the bed, in front of a seating area, or in a dressing room. In an entryway where shoes are worn, a tight surface prevents dirt from settling between the fibers, but the appearance can tire more quickly. Placing plush rugs in areas where people pause, rather than main thoroughfares, will keep them looking new longer.

Does It Show Marks? Yes, and Most Are Temporary

Such a dense surface clearly shows marks left on it: indentations from furniture legs, vacuum cleaner lines, and footprints will be visible. Most of these are not permanent; fluffing the pile with a damp cloth or placing felt pads under furniture will resolve most marks. Details on the method are written in our care guide, and if you're unsure about sizing, our size calculator will determine the appropriate allowance for you.
