Water is the only true enemy of this group

Plant fibers absorb moisture quickly and release it slowly. Absorbed moisture causes the fiber to swell; when it dries, a ring-shaped mark, and sometimes a color change, remains. The risk of mold with prolonged dampness is real. Therefore, areas like bathroom exits, in front of kitchen sinks, basements, or damp entrances leading to a garden are not suitable for jute and sisal. Cleaning is done dry: vacuuming and, if necessary, spot treatment with very little moisture.

An honest look at firmness

These rugs do not feel soft under bare feet. Sisal is noticeably firm, jute is a bit more yielding; neither offers the comfort of a soft-pile rug. Read this not as a flaw but as a preference: if what you're looking for is not comfort, but a calm and natural floor texture for your space, you're in the right group.
